Mark S. Weprin was elected to the Assembly on March 24, 1994, in a special
election to fill the seat left vacant by the untimely death of his father,
Assem bly Speaker Saul Weprin. His district includes New Hyde Park, Flushing,
Fresh Meadows, Jamaica Estates, Little Neck, Bayside, Holliswood, Bellerose,
Floral Park, Glen Oaks and Douglaston in Eastern Queens.
Mark was born and raised in Queens and has been involved in politics and
the community practically since the day he was born. He attended local public
schools and is a graduate of Jamaica High School. Mark received his undergraduate
degree in Communication from the State University of New York at Albany
where he was selected to give the student commencement address. He received
his law degree from Brooklyn Law School and is a member of the New York
State Bar.
Until his election, Mark was an Associate with the law firm of Shea & Gould
in Manhattan. At Shea & Gould, he represented labor organizations and their
members as part of the firm's Labor and Employment Law Department. Before
attending Law School, Mark worked for former New York City Mayor Edward
I. Koch. From 1986-1989 he was a legislative representative for the City
of New York, representing Criminal Justice, Environmental and Labor issues
on behalf of the Mayor. Before joining the Koch administration, Mark was
an account executive in public relations and marketing.
Since his election to the Assembly, Mark's emphasis has been on local education,
crime and senior citizen issues. In April, 1994, Mark was appointed by the
Speaker to serve on the Assembly Standing Committees on Aging, Banks, Insurance
and Small Business.
He is a member of the Hillcrest Jewish Center, the Independence Democratic
Club, the Eastern Queens Democratic Club, and is a former little league
coach for the Jamaica Estates and Holliswood Little League. He is an avid
Mets fan and resides in Bellerose, Queens.
